Towing Performance of the Submerged Floating Offshore Wind Turbine under Different Wave Conditions

One of the advantages floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) is that they can be designed to easily wet towed and installed reduce cost construction. In this paper, a fully coupled towing system numerical model established for novel 10 MW FOWT concept, namely, submerged turbine (SFOWT) investigate performance. Firstly, simulation validated by comparison with experiment results. Then, series simulations are conducted predict compare performance three-column SFOWT (TC-SFOWT) four-column (FC-SFOWT) under different wave conditions. The results show two forms have good when significant height less than 5 m, which maximum allowable condition. FC-SFOWT shows relatively better in heave motion roll motion, but force larger compared TC-SFOWT same When values pitch 2.51 2.14°, 1.38°, respectively, while 2.25 2.70°, 1.21°, FC-SFOWT.
